Who can participate in “The Edit” contest?
“The Edit” contest is open to middle and high school teachers (grades 6-12) in public or non-profit schools located in the United States or the District of Columbia (excluding Puerto Rico, Guam, the Virgin Islands and other United States territories).
Teachers must register for an account — student registrations are not allowed.
Is there a cost associated with participating in “The Edit”?
No, “The Edit” is completely free for all middle and high school teachers who wish to participate. There are no registration fees involved in joining the digital storytelling challenge.
Is there a limit on the number of news reports that can be submitted by each teacher?
Yes, there is a limit of one entry per teacher during each contest period. For teachers running “The Edit” program in multiple classrooms, they must select one winning team and submit it as their entry. Multiple entries received from any person beyond this limit will void all such additional entries.
Can I participate if I submitted a contest entry in the past?
Yes, teachers may submit up to one entry per contest period. However, the student group must be different for each entry. If you participated in the past, log in to your account here to submit a new entry.
What resources are provided to support students in creating their news reports?
“The Edit” teacher portal provides a comprehensive set of resources to support students throughout the news report creation process. All resources are available online, allowing for a paper-free experience. However, participants who prefer to use paper copies can print each asset.
Are there any technical requirements or specifications for the video submissions?
Yes, to create their news reports, students will need access to an Adobe Express for Education account, which is free for all schools. Alternatively, reports may be edited in Adobe Premiere Mobile or Premiere Pro.
Submit your video as an Adobe Express share link or other cloud-based link (eg. Google Drive, Dropbox or YouTube). Please ensure the link is set to “anyone can view” or “anyone can comment.”
Do students need to include The Edit logo in their videos?
No, their videos should not include The Edit, NBCU Academy or Adobe logos. The Edit logo was included in the example video for demonstration purposes only.
