What is The Edit?

The Edit is NBCU Academy and Adobe’s initiative to develop creativity and inspire the next generation of talent in film and TV. Your middle or high school students will build key media and digital literacy skills as they create their own 90-second video news reports about Physical, Mental or Financial Wellbeing using Adobe Express and a complete package of ready-made tutorials and guides.

Join a nationwide contest by submitting the best news report from your classroom. Three middle school classrooms and three high school classrooms will be selected as winners to receive prizes from NBCU Academy and Adobe such as GoPro equipment, Fandango gift cards and branded merchandise.

“The Edit” contest is open to middle and high school teachers (grades 6-12) in public or non-profit schools located in the United States or the District of Columbia (excluding Puerto Rico, Guam, the Virgin Islands and other United States territories).

No, “The Edit” is completely free for all middle and high school students who wish to participate. There are no registration fees or costs involved in joining the digital storytelling challenge.

Yes, there is a limit of one entry per teacher during the contest period. For teachers running “The Edit” program in multiple classrooms, they must select one winning team and submit it as their entry. Multiple entries received from any person beyond this limit will void all such additional entries. 

Yes, teachers may submit up to one entry per contest period. However, the student group must be different for each entry. If you participated in the past, log in to your account here to submit a new entry.

“The Edit” provides a comprehensive set of resources to support students throughout the news report creation process. These resources are included in the downloadable PDF pack provided in “The Edit” portal. All resources are available online, allowing for a paper-free experience. However, participants who prefer to use paper copies can print each asset.

Yes, students are encouraged to collaborate on news reports as a team. To submit, divide your students into teams of four individuals. Each team will work together to create and submit a 90-second video news report for “The Edit.” 

All entries must be received before March 3, 2025, at 8:00 P.M. ET to be eligible for the contest.

There will be two rounds of judging:

  • Round 1: Initial judging to determine the finalists on or about March 17, 2025
  • Round 2: Judging to determine the winner on or about April 7, 2025

Yes, to create their news reports, students will need access to an Adobe Express for Education account, which is free for all schools. Additionally, students will need digital devices such as tablets, laptops, or desktop computers to work on their reports. They will also require digital recording devices, such as tablets, cell phones, or cameras, to capture footage for their reports.

In order to be eligible for the contest, all videos must be submitted as Adobe Express share links. Any other formats will not be accepted.

No, their videos should not include The Edit logo. The logo was included in the example video for demonstration purposes only.
